In just 10 minutes, you can enjoy this tasty herring dish!
Ingredients
*2 Tbs. mustard powder *2 C. water *1/2 tsp. ground turmeric *salt to taste *5 Tbs. mustard oil *1 tsp. onion seeds *3 onions, finely chopped *1 lb. herring *3 green chillies, chopped
Directions
Dissolve the mustard powder in water then stir in turmeric and salt. Let stand for at least 30 minutes.
Heat 4 Tbs. of oil almost to smoking point and fry the onion seeds for 30 seconds. Add the onions and fry for 30 seconds. Add onions and fry until golden. Pour in mustard water and bring to a boil. Add fish, cover and simmer for 6-7 minutes. Add chillies, cover and simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in remaining mustard oil and serve hot with plain rice.
