Turnip Bhurta PDF Print E-mail

This is a spicy side dish that can be served alongside just about any Indian main course! It makes use of ghee, cumin, ginger and chilies!

 

Ingredients:

* 1/4 C. ghee
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1/2 inch ginger root, grated
* 2 cloves garlic, chopped
* 2 tomatoes, skinned and quartered
* 2 green chilies, chopped
* 1 lb. turnips, mashed
* 1/2 tsp. garam marsala
* 1 Tbs. fresh cilantro
* Pinch of cumin

Directions:

Heat the ghee and fry the cumin seeds, onion, garlic and ginger for 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes, turnips, salt and chilies and cook for 10 minutes, stirring. Sprinkle with garam marsala and cilantro. Serve.
